GODISNOWHERE began in 1995 as a ministry with the primary mission of challenging believers and non-believers about the spiritual, philosophical and theological positions they hold to be true. While this outreach is definitely evangelical, it is also very much designed to equip the saint. The team leaders of GODISNOWHERE have ministered the gospel of grace to thousands of people over the past number of years, and it is exciting and always changing.
We attend the annual People’s Fair (located in the heart of Denver) with a large banner atop a tent that reads GODISNOWHERE. The tent generates a lot of discussion as passerbys read it and attempt to discern its meaning. Some groups even end up in passionate discussion over what they see.
So what is the name all about, and why do we pitch a tent with a banner that causes so much confusion? That part is simple - to generate discussion with people that would not enter a typical "religious" tent. The name generates conversion, and that provides an opening to the topic of God's existence, the gospel, and countless other theological concepts.
Let's take a look at the name. The banner is most often read as one of the following (in order of occurrence):
GOD IS NO WHERE is most frequently seen first and appropriately so. With our cognitive desire to solve problems quickly, this response is likely. Besides, the English language is read left to right, and the word NO is completed before the word NOW. Interestingly, and disappointingly, when many believers see this "offensive" version of the sign, it sadly often goes unchallenged. If the sign was meant as a declaration of "atheism," then why don't believers challenge us about our beliefs and offer to teach us the truth?
GOD IS NOW HERE is our claim. We attempt to present a rational, coherent and consistent set of axioms and propositions to defend why we believe in the existence of God. We rely on the bible as our primary source. We study and declare extra-biblical evidence, philosophical, and theological information, all in the purpose of teaching believers and non-believers what it means to take a critical path to faith or in faith to Christ.
GOD I SNOW HERE is just our way of having fun with it, and it used at times to keep conversation light.
This ministry is very challenging because we position ourselves in a layer of ambiguity that is not recognized until the person who first sees us attempts a certain level of investigation. We have been accused of causing confusion, but our purpose is to bring wisdom, knowledge and understanding to the Body that is sorely missing. The Body is so confused at times that one within it cannot even identify the difference between a hoax, a lie and the truth. Our purpose is to bring clear and solid teachings to both the Body and the unbeliever in an effort to educate, so that one can actually love the Lord our God with all of their heart, soul and mind.
